We’re 10 days away from early voting for the NYC June Primary, which also means 10 days away from the end of the Primary Bootcamp. If you haven’t gotten to 70 points yet, it’s not too late.
Reminder: once you hit 70 points, you'll get a beautiful print by a local artist and an invitation to join the Bootcamp Awards Party on July 12.
It’s worth 30 points to volunteer on a political campaign.
Volunteering on a political campaign, especially canvassing and phonebanking, is one of the most powerful things you can do in the final weeks before an election. This is when campaigns are working to turn out every last supporter, and your conversations can be the difference between someone voting or staying home.
Every conversation helps shape the outcome, because campaigns are laser-targeted on the voters that are most likely to actually vote in a low-turnout local primary in June. City Council races are won by slim margins because of low voter turnout. For example, in 2023, one city council member won a contested Democratic primary with just 2K votes in a district with over 35K registered Democratic voters and approximately 146K total voting-age residents. Put another way: just 6% of registered Democrats and 1.5% of all voting-age residents in that district selected the eventual councilmember. Every phone call counts. Every bit of positive name recognition counts.
I’ll be phonebanking for Ben Wetzler’s City Council campaign tomorrow, from my couch. Join me!
Thu, Jun 5, 6pm–8pm (and every Sunday and Thursday heading into the election)
Location: Your couch
